Robert A. Behrstock
Although most of Bob Behrstock's collecting is now done with a camera, at heart,
he is still the youngster who went around picking up bugs and snakes. Formerly
museum curator, university instructor, fisheries biologist, cook, and birding
tour leader, Bob now wears the hats of writer, photographer, and environmental
consultant. He has authored or co-authored 25 popular and scientific papers concerning
fisheries, birds, and insects in the United States and Latin America. Over 200
of his photos have been published in advertising and packaging, calendars, newspapers,
travel books, field guides, CD-ROMs, and bird publications such as WildBird, BBC
Wildlife, and Handbook of Birds of the World. His damselfly, dragonfly, and butterfly
pictures appear in the Houston Chronicle, Dragonflies through Binoculars, Common
Dragonflies of California: A Beginner's Pocket Guide, Dragonflies of North America,
and on a number of web sites. His audio recordings of birds are found on more
than a dozen commercially available cassettes. His recent work has included site
assessments for the three new Great Texas Wildlife Trails and the State of Virginia's
coastal birding trail, ecotourism-related fieldwork in Pennsylvania and West Texas,
and presenting programs and field trips for dragonfly and butterfly festivals.
